One of the highlights from our trip to Greece was the excursion we took from Athens to the Greek Islands of Hydra, Poros, and Aegina. I made a travel video from some of the video clips I took and uploaded to my new Mark Greenawalt Fine Art YouTube channel. We had a really good time at all three islands, but I think my favorite part was seeing the Temple of Aphaia (pictured above), one of the three temples that make an isosceles triangle with the Parthenon and the Temple of Poseidon. It wasn't as big as the Parthenon, but there was no crowd and the quiet made it more pensive. I hope to do more of these travel videos, but I must admit, the editing is tedius and time consuming. As of this writing, my new channel only has 12 subscribers and 148 lifetime views...but it's growing. I did just surpass 500 subscribers on my main music channel too.
Even for me, the thought of using my phone to hail a 'taxi' without a driver to come pick me up, wherever I am, and take me to wherever I want to go, seems like science fiction. So for Mom, I can't even imagine how unbelievable that must be to experience in reality. But we did! Mom turned 88 this month and my wife had the idea to get a Waymo to pick us up at her house in Chandler, Arizona and take us to The Keg for dinner. It was my first time experiencing this too and I'm 58! It was a little unnerving and there was one point in the parking lot where it got a little 'dicey' with other cars, but we arrived safe and in one piece.
The best way to get comfortable with flying a drone is to get more flight hours under your belt. This month I took the drone to three different locations to work on my skills and to capture some timely images and video. First up was the blooming flowers on the tall cactus that are normally challenging to photograph close up. With a drone I was able to fly above them and get in close. It was a little more difficult than I anticipated due to the wind and the collision detection of the drone that kept me from getting too close. However, I was still thrilled with the results as seen in the image above.
Next up was the Soleri Bridge in Scottsdale. I've always found the design of this pedestrian bridge to be unique and knowing that it is aligned to cast special shadows on the solctice makes it like a solar dial. I did some of the lighting at the adjacent Scottsdale Waterfront Residences so I took the opportunity to photograph that from the sky too. I edited this video footage on my new YouTube channel here https://youtu.be/4fklfevpb0Q?si=cMgEaLqFnTE_r6Zd.
The third trip was to Saguaro Lake and the Salt River downstream of the Saguro Lake Dam. I haven't edited this video yet, but above is the one photo of red mountain that I took from the Granite Reef Recreation Area. More to come...
