VOL 19 ISSUE 11 | NOVEMBER 2024 |
I travelled to Amarillo, Texas this month for a lighting project at the J. Marvin Jones Federal Building and Mary Lou Robinson U.S. Courthouse. The assignment is to design better lighting for wall murals in the lobby that were painted by Julius Woeltz 1941. While in town, of course I did some extracaricular photography and sight seeing. Hightlights included Cadillac Ranch, the VW Bug Ranch, Big Texan Steak House, and more historic stops along Texas stretch of Route 66! Lots of images to go through, but for now, here's one with the partially burried cadillacs covered in countless layers of spray paint at Cadillac Ranch. More to come.
I wasn't prepared this month when the Northern Lights came back to Arizona so I completly missed them. Next I missed the sunset shadows on Superstition Mountain that look like a mountain lion just twice a year. So I vowed that I would not miss the opportunity to photograph the rare showing of a comet in the night skies named Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). I was oblivious to the night when it was the closest and brightest after going around the sun, but luckily it lasted a few more nights before it left for the next 80,000 years. Again I was doing a lighting project that happened to be at a clubhouse in Desert Mountain and it was far enough north to get away from some of the sky glow of Phoenix. The comet looks so cool in photos and I'm so glad to add this to my portfolio of astrophotography, but I must confess that I could barely make it out with my aging eyes. Luckily I have the Stellarium app on my phone that showed me where to look!
Halloween 2024 was fantastic again this year. Lori came up with another couples costume for us this year that was so much fun. Our theme was Beauty and the Beast. Lori got off the hook this year for getting facepainted, but not I! I bought a foam latex prosthetic nose and brow, the mane, and all of the costume pieces and spent about an hour assembling it all. Lori mentione that you could get roses in these cool water filled crystal balls. That was the perfect touch. We do all of this for our friends Halloween house party although sometime we need to show up at some bar costume contest and see what happens.
Note - Other fun things this month included a Sun City gig with The Polyesters, a Scottsdale Airpark Hanger gig with The Yachties, and an Ahwatukee outdoor park gig with Nineball. I also started selling postcards at my storefront at the Scottsdale Painted Tree this month.
December 7th (7:30 pm Saturday) - The Grinch will be riding again in Chandler Christmas Festival and Parade
Also on December 7th from 10am till 5pm is the Mesa Book Festival and I'm hoping to play a set of solo acoustic music.
