SAY WHAT'S ON YOUR MINDSPAN>

Lyrics

Liner Notes

(Verse 1)
I close my eyes
So I can see how our love used to be
I realize
That something's changed and I don't think it's me

Now I've done all I can
I've given you my heart
But just let me know
Don't leave me in the dark

(Chorus)
Say you love me, Say you hate me
Anything would be just fine
Say that I'm your one and only
Say your leaving me behind
You know I love you,
But there comes a time
When you've got to say what's on your mind

(Verse 2)
I spend my nights
Watching you and wondering what's wrong
A love so right
Or maybe I've just played the fool too long

Now I've done all I can
I've given you my soul
But if it's over
Then it's time to let me know

(Chorus)
Say you love me, Say you hate me
Anything would be just fine
Say that I'm your one and only
Say your leaving me behind
You know I love you,
But there comes a time
When you've got to say what's on your mind

BEHIND THE MUSIC:

- In 1997, Mark and Chris wrote this song in Greenawalt's basement in Nashville, Tennessee on acoustic guitars. The demo was initially recorded on a Session 8, 8-track digital recording system. St.Croix sang the original demo in the key of E. The drums on the demo were done using Band-In-A-Box software.

- The next version of the song was done in Roger Wiedabach's basement studio using linked ADAT machines. Weidabach played the drum tracks and Greenawalt played all of the guitar, bass, and keyboard parts. The key was moved up to F# so that Kristy Deck could do the lead vocals.

- With all of the tracks converted to wav files, Greenawalt put everything back into Session 8 and did new versions of the song. One featured Dawna Bradford on lead vocals and the other was a version with Greenawalt on lead vocals.

- In April of 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Greenawalt updated the sound of the song by adding heavier rhythm guitars and some new keyboard tracks. One of the old keyboard tracks had a bell sound to it, but it was done with midi so the original sound was no longer available. Greenawalt had bought a glockenspiel at a local yard sale and decided to record this little run on this instrument. The earlier acoustic, drums, bass, and vocal tracks were all kept in tact for this version.
