SIMPLE LIFESPAN>

Lyrics

Liner Notes

(Verse 1)
To work by eight, work some overtime
Read the paper, in bed by nine
Nothing ever changes caught in routine
Leaves me restless for a change of scene

(Chorus)
You can take your simple life
If that's what sets you free
But there's a world outside your television
It's there for you to see

You can take your simple life
It doesn't work for me
I'm gonna live life to the fullest
No simple life for me

Oooh! No simple life, for me

(Verse 2)
Slaving for wages then put it all away
Save your pennies for a rainy day
You serve a sentence behind a picket fence
And think of freedom in the future tense

(Chorus)
You can take your simple life
If that's what sets you free
But there's a world beyond your bank account
It's there for you to see
You can take your simple life
It doesn't work for me
I'm gonna live life to the fullest
No simple life for me

Oooh! No simple life, for me

BEHIND THE MUSIC:

Many times I thrive on burning the candle at both ends. Most people have good conotations to the phrase "living the simple life", but I wrote these lyrics to say that living the easy relaxed simple life isn't near as much fun as living an adventurous life. This is one of my favorite songs to play on 12-string acoustic and I owe a big thank you to Dan Wieglib for laying down fantastic drum and bass tracks for the demo.

"I'm gonna live life to fullest...no simple life for me!" This song was written on the Epiphone 12-string featured in the video and has been one of my favorite songs to play ever since I wrote it. I'm thrilled to have Dawna duet with me on the vocals. We had both sang our own versions of the song, but I found the archived files and combined them. We sang this song together at the world famous Bluebird Cafe on May 17th, 1998 and I included a photo from that night and the live audio of the audience response at the end of the music video. Daniel recorded the bass and drums in my basement studio back then and now I have waited 20 years to finish the guitar tracks and I had to learn saxophone to be able to play that track. I hope you enjoy the song and feel inspired to live life to fullest!
