These are The White House Ruins of Canyon De Chelly in Northern Arizona. There is a parking lot that I drove to at White House Overlook, and then hiked down the White House Trail. The self-guided trail is 2.5 miles and depends about 600 feet and it boasts gorgeous panoramic views all the way down to the bottom of the canyon. The trail includes two tunnels and meets up with the small river before getting to these ruins that were built by the Anasazi in 1070. The dark streaks on the canyon wall above are know as ‘desert varnish.’
