Banyon Tree

This is the Banyan Tree on the Pipiwai Trail that I hiked in Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii. It’s over 100 years old and some branches are over 60’ long. The lighting spilling through the leaves made it really difficult to determine the right exposure. The solution was taking bracketed photos and combining them in Lightroom into and HDR (high dynamic range) photo. There is still quite a bit of contrast, but you can now see detail in the shadows and the highlights.
