The Greening of the Fountain

This is was the tallest fountain in the world when it was built in 1970 by Robert P. McCulloch (the same guy that brought the London Bridge to Arizona). Each year since 1979, the town of Fountain Hills dyes the water green during the St.Patricks Day Irish Fountain Fest.
It’s now the fifth tallest in the world and second tallest in the US. The fountain shoots water up to 560 feet, driven by three 600 horsepower turbine pumps, every hour (on the hour) for 15 minutes from 9am to 9pm. But the greening is only for this special occasion.
