The 4th of July in San Diego
by Mark Greenawalt

My family and the Clapper family spent independence day weekend in the city reported to have the best year round weather in the United States: San Diego, Califonia.  And I must say that the weather was just perfect the whole time we were there.  It got a little chilly in the evening on the beach, which was refreshing after stepping out of the Phoenix oven.

Our trip included a broad taste of the tourist traps of the city which included The San Diego Wildlife Park, The San Diego Zoo, and Sea World.  Beyond these city icons though was were we found the heart of San Diego.  We visited a place called Old Town (the original city), The Gas Lamp District (a downtown nightlife mecca), Mission San Diego (a mission, obviously), Ocean Beach, Dog Beach, and Pacific Beach.  There are some pictures of Sea World in my wildlife photo gallery (http://www.markgreenawalt.com/classx/photo/nature.htm )and more to come from the rest of the trip.

A good friend of mine from Pennsylvania now considers herself to be a local there in Southern California.  Her name is Lana Spence and I was in a band with her called "NV" for a short while back east.  She's now singing blues in the San Diego circuit and you can check out thier website at http://www.theleasebreakers.com/.  She took us to The Corvette Diner during an evening on the town.

The Challenger Space Center Blasts Off
by Mark Greenawalt

The engineering consulting firm that I work for, Sullivan Designs, Inc., is proud to unveil a high profile and extremely interesting project this month.  The facility is called the Challenger Space Center and it is a learning center that specializes in educating the masses on space travel and astronomy.  The project was conceived by the surviving family members of the ill-fated Challenger Space Shuttle mission. Check out the Challenger's official website at www.azchallenger.org .(I wrote an article about this place on the Sullivan Designs, Inc. website, but it has been archived)

Several other interesting projects that I am currently working on the electrical engineer blueprints include a world class spa at the Princess Resort in Scottsdale, a new radio station for KJZZ (a jazz FM station), several schools, and pasta factory.

Yet Another New Face at Southwest Models
by Mark Greenawalt

Yes, there is a new face that graces the pages of Southwest Models (SouthwestModels.net site has been archived) portfolio section.  Her name is Regina and she's from Phoenix, Arizona.  This was Regina's first modeling photoshoot and she was very natural to work with.  The photos were taken in and around the scenic Pointe Resort and included a jaunt through a landmark fountain.  I think we got some really good shots and I hope to work with her again sometime soon.

Next month I plan to have some of my first bodypainting photos published on the internet.  I have already completed two practice sessions on my son's back and my wife's arm and I am planning to have two more completed very soon.  Read all about it in the August issue of the Green Pages.  Oh, and by the way, help support this site by buying stuff at Model Store (swmodels.swsites.net site has been archived).

More Bullet Items
by Mark Greenawalt

-Another singer/songwriter friend of mine has joined the ranks of mp3.com and his name is Griffin.  I met John (Griffin) while working with him in Nashville at I.C. Thomasson Associates and then later he became a referee at my son's soccer games at the YMCA.  John has a very catchy style that boarders on rock and adult contemporary and his songwriting has a lot of crossover potential.  (His music used to be at http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/140/griffin1.html but it has since been archived).

-Yet another friend of mine from Nashville has just completed 3 new songs and added them to his website.  His name is Chris St.Croix and you can go to his site and listen to his stuff also.  The address is www.chrisstcroix.com and I highly recommend checking out the song "Stand Up."  I think this song is going to be a hit and I'm willing to bet on it.  Go see what you think and tell him Mark sent ya'.

-The winner of this months drawing for the Mills Barn limited edition art print is the lovely Serena Kundysek who is currently residing in Arlington, Texas.  She is a fellow photographer and musician and I had the opportunity of working with her in the Dawna Bradford band.  She has given me a few pointers on shooting black and white film that I have yet to try out, but I am anxious to give them a try.  Thanks, Serena, for signing my guestbook and I hope you enjoy the print.  If anyone would like a chance at winning a print all you have to do is sign the guestbook (the guest book is gone now, sorry) and you will be in the next month's drawing.

Type at you next month!!!
